Summer of Serving

Service Day #1:
Thank-A-Veteran Care Packages

Sunday afternoon, June 27, 2021. (Specific times and dates are determined per campus.)
This is a fun activity to off our summer of missions. First,  you will identify any vets in your family and/or congregation to determine the number of baskets which you need to construct. This service day will highlight the importance of respecting and being thankful for our veterans, but it will also encourage involvement and relationship between diverse life experience represented in our church.

Care packages for vets are easy to put together. You can make cookies and/or baked goods for them. You can also write hand-written notes thanking them for their service and listing what freedoms you are most thankful for. You could also share your favorite Bible verses with them.

The care packages can be put together by purchasing containers from the store or stuffed inside gift bags. Other things that could work well in a care package could be non-perishable snacks like canned peanuts or hard candies. At the end of the day, what will make a successful care-package is the personal touch that you can put on them. If you’re really good, you could get pictures of the vets from your family and surprise them by having them personalized with photos and favorite things as suggested from your family.

Service Day #2:
Free Car Wash

Sunday afternoon, July 25, 2021. (Specific times and dates are determined per campus.)
Here's another easy one, and in fact, probably one you’ve done as a fundraiser at some point, previously.

We'll be hosting a free car wash! The key to this one is actually getting the word out that you are doing the event. Prior to the event, we will place some signs that say free car wash (colored markers and poster- board), and make sure that the event makes it into the announcements. One thing we want to make sure and stress is that it’s truly free as a service from the church to the community (Some people will insist that they donate money; that’s ok, we will let them. If the inevitable donation comes in, it will be immediately allocated to youth outreach in our church and community).

Supplies for the event are simple: buckets, towels, soap, hoses, washing mitts or sponges. We also encourage students to bring a towel for drying cars and to wear appropriate clothing.

Service Day #3:
Community Park Clean-Up

Sunday afternoon, August 8, 2021. (Specific times and dates are determined per campus.)
This one is also pretty easy. We will load up with an ample supply of gloves and trash bags. Students will meet at the park that is selected by their youth ministry (email pastor Brant, pastor Josh, or pastor John for specifics and details), and we'll spread out picking up all the trash we can find.

Another thing to be prepared for is answer anyone who asks them what, or why they are doing this. This is a good opportunity to share the love of Jesus for our community.

And then obviously, make sure you dispose of the trash appropriately, rather than leave it somewhere for someone else to clean up. Our churches have dumpsters that are ideal for this sort of thing.
